The state Government has taken numbers of initiatives for holistic Development of Minorities through Directorate of Minority Welfare, Tripura Wakf Board, Tripura Cooperative Minority Development Corporation Ltd. and State Haj Committee.The State Government has also taken initiative to constitute the State Minority Commission. The Bill was passed by the Tripura Legislative Assembly and was sent to Ministry of Home Affairs for obtaining assent of the President of India.

According to the latest information, population statistics of different Minority Communities of the State are as follows:

Action Taken on declaration made by Government time to time  

5(five) communities, namely (i) Muslim (ii) Buddhist(Non ST) (iii) Christians(Non ST) (iv) Shikh (v) Jain were notified as Religious Minority in the State vide Notification No.14259-339/F.2-279/SCW/GL/95 dated 05-09-1997 and No.996-1120/F.10-5/SCW/GL/03 dated 18-04-2007. Subsequently, 72 Panchayats/Villages having 30% and above minority population were identified as minority concentrated area and a package of Welfare Scheme was launched for Socio-Economic Development of minority communities.
